Gardening is more than decorating. They are not only a simple hobby either. It plays a significant part in a gardener's life by bringing calmness, accomplishment and a connection to nature. The harder you work at it, the more benefits gardening will bring you.

Some houseplants require humidity to thrive. You can create humidity in any environment by grouping different plants together in one pot, or replanting the specimen into a larger pot and filling the gap in with compost or stones. The humidity for your houseplants can be increased by a daily mist of water.

Vinegar mixed with rubbing alcohol is an effective way to clean clay pots of salt deposits. When you have a plant in a clay pot, unsightly salt deposits can build up on the outside over time. Clean the pot with a mixture of white vinegar, rubbing alcohol and water measured equally into a spray bottle. Use a plastic brush to scrub the salt away easily. Rinse the pot thoroughly, and allow it to dry before you plant anything in it.

Some plants will thrive when you re-plant them, while others won't do nearly as well. To see whether a plant needs more growing room, first remove it from its pot by turning it upside down and gently sliding it loose. If you can only see almost all roots, you need to find a new pot for this plant. On the other hand, if only a minuscule amount of roots are showing or none at all, then your plant will be all right in the pot it was already in.

Avoid damage from the sun by dressing correctly when you garden. Choose hats with overlapping brims, don those sunglasses and smear on the sunscreen. If you cover up from the sun, you are less likely to become burned or get skin cancer.

Prepare your seeds by soaking them in a dark environment. Use a small container filled with water to nearly the top and place several seeds in it. When you do this, you hydrate your seeds and they can start growing. The seeds will most likely survive and mature this way.

Fresh mint is a wonderful addition to a herb garden, but it can quickly take over your entire yard. Keep your mint growth under control by planting them in pots and/or garden containers. Plant the container in the ground, but its walls will hold those roots captive, and will prevent the plant from engulfing your garden!

Consider planting trees that will produce decorative fall fruit. While most people think mostly of leaves in terms of providing the most vivid fall color, several varieties of trees offer beautiful fruit that is quite decorative in nature. The berries are colored anywhere from yellow to dark red, and last through the winter providing food for birds and color in your garden. Some varieties of these trees are chokeberry, crabapple, holly, and hawthorn.

You should divide irises. If you divide the overgrown clumps of flowers, you'll find that your stock grows proportionally. When the foliage has died off, it is time to harvest the iris bulbs. The bulbs split in your hand, then you replant them, and they will most likely flower next year. Split rhizomes with a knife. Cut the center out of each rhizome but save the pieces. Each piece should retain a minimum of one sturdy offshoot capable of spurting new growth. Replant your cuttings immediately for the best results.

Use gardening to relax. You may be aware of various ways to find peaceful relaxation. Gardening is at the top of the list of ways to relax for many people. It is not prohibitively expensive, and has numerous benefits. The best part of it is not the plants themselves, but the stillness achieved by tending to them.

Think about starting plants in pots, and then placing the seedlings in the garden later. Your plants will be more likely to mature this way. This method also reduces the waiting time between plantings. Once you've removed the previous group of plants, your seedlings can go into the ground.

Use this article to revive your garden. The joy of watching your plants grow and blossom will make you happy to have tried. Gardening could become your new hobby and be a real source of happiness for you.
